Colour Without Context

I am a visual person who appreciates having beautiful things around me in my surroundings.  I especially  love  bright colours as evidenced by the splashes of it all around my home.  No subdued pastels for me!  It's easier to appreciate a gorgeous hue when the form of the object is aesthetically beautiful too.  But I've set myself an exercise of feeling wonderment at the spectrum of shades that are presented to me in everyday life.  We label some things as ugly, mundane or out of place and therefore may not give them positive attention.

And so on my way to and from work I let myself be bombarded by the colours of things that I pass by.  Billboards, other vehicles, litter and the clothing of pedestrians all catch my attention and bring me joy.  It's as if I've been mind altered but without the need for psychedelic drugs.    Blue seems to hold a special place in my heart.  I didn't realise that I had a favourite colour but maybe it's the one.  Yellow shouts to be noticed.   The crocuses are out in the hedgerow at the moment.  Such a pretty shade but there is a advertising sign on the Paignton road which uses a very similar colour.   Most of all I've become fixated by amber traffic lights. I almost beg for the green light to change as I approach so I can marvel at it.  An odd bird? Maybe.  But this thrush is a fan too!

  1. I love this photo. I too prefer colour as to bland and black and white. It cheers the soul somewhat.

    1. Black and white can be good as a backdrop for a little splash of something brighter! xx

  2. This is a remarkable photo! I love it but the birds must get no respite from lights day or night. JanF

    1. Credit goes to the Daily Mail for the photo. I suppose overnight the lights stay on red a lot of the time? xx

  3. Like you, I too love color. My home is full of it. My clothing is full of it. And while I love pastels, it's the rich vibrant colors that shout at me. And yes, blue is my very favorite color; but I often use red or bright yellow as accent colors. Hurray for color!
