Ethical Aldi

We're in Cornwall visiting Calamity Jane.  Some time soon I'll stop gallivanting all over the country and stay at home.  Ah!  Next weekend I've got nothing planned.  It's going to stay that way.  Unless.........!

On the way down I passed a big Aldi lorry with a banner on it saying that the chain had won an award for best supermarket in some category or another.  I'm not sure if it's my favourite although I visit this handy Paignton branch often.    I think Lidl has a better selection of ingredients for those of us who cook from scratch.  Of course if I'm feeling really cheffy and haven't had time to pop into one of the little delis or health food shops for obscure ingredients I go to Sainsburys.    But there's a store that's a bit too expensive to be the regular haunt of a cost conscious single mum.

But the juggernaut reminded me to mention something that I've thought about blogging for a while.  Did you know that last year  Aldi  was given the very worthwhile accolade of being 'leaping bunny' accredited? This means that all their own brand household and health and beauty products are cruelty free.  Making sure that everyday items have not been tested on animals is a bit of a minefield.  This makes shopping ethically at a reasonable price rather easy.

  1. No, I hadn't heard that, good to know. There's a new Lidl in Minehead which is really nice, much better than the old style ones, and now a new one is being built behind the old one in our nearest town. They're serious rivals to the bigger supermarkets, I think.

  2. I keep hearing about how wonderful Aldi is........unfortunately our nearest one is about 5/6 miles away, so I expect I shall carry on at Waitrose, which is just down the road!

    1. Our Waitrose is across the other side of the bay so I don't go there. Love it but a little too pricey for me. xx

    1. Their cosmetic and beauty range is great and very easy on the pocket. I wish they would feature their eyebrow pencil again. xx

  4. Good news about Aldi. Unfortunately our nearest one needs a car journey so try to stock up when I am there. Happy weekend in Cornwall.
