This made me laugh. By posting this it will look like I detest the beautiful game but that's not the case. I've had my moments. Eight years ago I popped our country's flag in the office window only to get caught up in a debate as to whether it was politically correct to do so! And I know England won 6-1 against Panama on Sunday. You see I'm so on the ball. If our team get through to the later stages of the game I might even cheer them on - in a suitably rowdy pub of course.
The most vivid footballing recollection that I have is lying on the carpet watching a big screen in the aptly named Pit in Cornwall House at Exeter University in 1986. It later became known by a much more lame title of the Lemon Grove. There, in a state of alcoholic fuzziness, I somehow vividly recall Maradona's 'Hand of God' moment.
